How to compare business mobile deals

Quotes for business mobile rarely line up neatly. Here is how to compare business mobile deals, plans and contracts on the same basis, so you can see which one really fits your business.

In short

To compare business mobile deals, put every quote on the same basis: the total cost of every line over the whole term, with VAT treated the same way and the network's price-change terms included. Then compare data per person, roaming, coverage where you work, account tools, spend controls and device management. Keep phones out of the comparison, so you see what the airtime costs. We can provide quotes on more than one network in a consistent format.

Compare business mobile phone deals on total cost, not headline price

When you compare business mobile phone deals, the monthly price is the least reliable number on the page. Two deals with similar monthly prices can cost very different amounts once the term, price changes and extras are included. Put every deal on the same footing first:

  1. Use the same VAT basis: business prices are usually shown excluding VAT, so make sure every quote is shown the same way.
  2. Work out the whole-term cost: the monthly charge for every line, across the full minimum term.
  3. Include price changes: add any annual change the network's terms set out.
  4. Add the extras you will use: roaming, add-ons and any services that are paid on top.
  5. Leave the phones out: compare the airtime alone, with phones bought separately, so you see what each plan really costs.

Once every deal is on that basis, the comparison becomes much clearer. Our guide to business mobile deals explains what drives the cost in the first place.

Business mobile plans comparison checklist

A business mobile plans comparison should cover more than allowances. Use this checklist on every quote:

What to compareWhat to checkWhy it matters
Total costEvery line over the whole term, on the same VAT basisThe monthly price alone can hide the real difference
Price changesHow the network's terms let charges change during the contractAn annual change adds up over a long term
Data per personAllowances against each person's real usage, and whether data can be sharedAvoids paying for unused data or running out
TermThe minimum term, and the term for lines added laterSets how long you are committed and when you can review
RoamingWhich destinations are included, and the cost of the restTravel costs vary widely between plans
CoverageSignal at your sites and on your routes, indoors as well as outA cheaper plan without signal costs more in lost time
Spend controlsSpend caps, bars and alerts, and who can change themStops roaming and premium numbers causing surprises
Account toolsOnline account, usage by line and reportingMakes it easy to spot waste and manage changes
ExtraseSIM, Wi-Fi Calling, security and device managementSome are included and some are paid options

The same checklist works whether you compare business mobile plans for a sole trader or for hundreds of lines. Our business mobile phone plans guide explains each plan type in more detail.

Comparing business mobile phone contracts: term and price changes

When you compare business mobile phone contracts, the terms matter as much as the price. Read each one for:

  • The minimum term for each line, and the term that applies to lines you add later
  • How prices can change: each network's terms say whether and how monthly charges can change during the contract, for example an annual change on a set date
  • Adding and removing lines: how easy it is to grow the account, and what applies if a line ends before its term
  • Roaming and fair use: the rules that apply abroad and on unlimited plans
  • End-of-term options: renewing the airtime, moving lines to another network with a PAC, or ending lines you no longer need

A business mobile contract comparison on these points protects you later. When we quote, we set out the network's relevant terms alongside the price. Our guide to business mobile phone contracts explains how contracts work.

Comparing coverage where your people work

Coverage is the one thing a price comparison cannot show, and it is the hardest thing to change after you sign. To compare it fairly:

  • Use each network's own postcode coverage checker for your offices, sites, staff home addresses and regular routes
  • Test indoors with a phone on each network where it matters, because walls and basements change the picture
  • Check whether your phones support Wi-Fi Calling for places where indoor signal is weak
  • Ask the people who travel your routes where signal drops

Our business mobile coverage guide explains how to test on site.

Comparing account tools, device management and support

Once you have more than a handful of lines, the tools around the plan make a real difference day to day. When you compare business mobiles across quotes, look at:

  • The online account: whether you can see usage by line, change plans and add lines without waiting
  • Spend controls: spend caps, bars and alerts, set per line
  • Reporting: bill analytics by person, department or site for larger accounts
  • eSIM: ordering and activating lines remotely, which suits remote starters
  • Device management: whether the network offers enrolment and device management, or whether you will use your own mobile device management software
  • Business support: how the account is supported, and what the network describes for business customers

Larger organisations should also compare account structure, cost centres and reporting; our guide to corporate mobile phone contracts explains how business mobile plans differ between large enterprises and SMEs, and our page on business mobile phone providers describes what each network offers.

Business and personal plans compared

Some small businesses compare business mobile plans with personal ones. To do that fairly, convert both to the same VAT basis, allow for VAT you can reclaim if you are VAT registered, count every line and keep the phones out of the comparison. A business account also keeps the numbers with the business and adds spend caps and administrator controls.

Our guide to business vs personal mobile contracts works through the comparison step by step, including VAT and the tax position for employees.

Getting quotes you can compare like for like

The easiest comparison is one where every quote is built the same way. We prepare quotes around your own usage and set them out line by line, so you can compare business mobile contracts on the points above rather than the headline price. We supply EE Business and Three Business, and can also supply O2 Business and Vodafone Business, so we can provide quotes on more than one network in a consistent format, and you can choose the network that works where your people work.

To get started, share a recent bill or usage report, the number of lines you need, where your people work and travel, and your current contract end dates. Plans and prices are confirmed at quote. Contact us and we will help you compare.

Frequently asked questions

How do I compare business mobile deals?

Put every deal on the same basis first: the total cost of every line over the whole term, with VAT treated the same way and the network's price-change terms included. Then compare data per person, roaming, coverage where you work, spend controls and account tools, with phones priced separately.

What should a business mobile plans comparison include?

Total cost over the term, price changes, data per person and whether it can be shared, the minimum term, roaming, coverage at your sites, spend caps and bars, account tools and extras such as eSIM, Wi-Fi Calling and device management.

How do I compare business mobile phone contracts?

Read each contract for the minimum term, how prices can change during it, the rules for adding and removing lines, roaming and fair use, and what happens at the end of the term. We set out the network's relevant terms alongside the price when we quote.

Can you give me quotes on more than one network?

Yes. We supply EE Business and Three Business, and can also supply O2 Business and Vodafone Business, so we can set out quotes on more than one network in a consistent format.

Should I compare business and personal plans?

It can help a sole trader or very small business. Put both on the same VAT basis, allow for VAT you can reclaim if you are VAT registered and keep phones separate. A business account also keeps the numbers with the business and adds spend controls.
